I don't know if I'm doing this the correct way or not? I am just interested in getting a message out to you about helping with the disparity in political exposure. Name recognition is everything in politics, and it takes boat loads of money to get your name out there. -- So here goes -- This is my first entry on Daily Kos.
Greetings everyone,
My name is Bill Glass and I am running for Congress against Sue Myrick.
I am asking for your help.
My opponent has a million dollars and has spent almost $600,000 on advertising. This is where the money of politics plays a huge roll. Because my opponent has all those ugly billboards, the last thing she needs to be bothered with is meeting with her constituents and exposing her misguided views of the world. And, because there are "equal time" laws and rules, I am not able to gain access to the press. (We only have $45 in the bank.)
This is where you come in -- please write letters to the editors of the Gaston Gazette, which cancelled a candidate's forum with Sue and I, because she was too busy and couldn't attend, and letters to the editor of the Charlotte Observer, noting that the League of Women's Voters also wouldn't hold a debate between Sue and I because they don't hold "empty chair" debates. Again, "she was too busy" even though she knew 6 weeks in advance of the debate. The very least these two organizations could do would be to allow me to make a brief statement explaining that my opponent is nothing more than a "chicken" to be seen in public with me. In fact, I don't think my opponent has been seen in public since the last golf tournament she attended -- but then again, that's where she gets the big bucks.
Thanks for your help.
Bill Glass
